Zoom Tackles Frontline Worker Disconnection with New Cloud-Based Solution
Businesses face a significant financial strain due to high turnover among frontline workers, many of whom feel disconnected from their organisation's culture and mission. A staggering 66% of frontline workers are frustrated with their company's communication technology, with 42% rating it poorly and 46% not knowing who their CEO is. This disconnect could be driving the 52% who would leave for better growth prospects, even at the same pay.
The digital divide is evident in the lack of recognition and career opportunities for frontline workers. Nearly half believe they have made a greater impact than their office-based colleagues but are not recognised for it. Additionally, 54% feel they have fewer career opportunities. This is compounded by the perception that company tools were designed with office staff in mind, leaving frontline workers feeling overlooked in digital transformation efforts despite outnumbering deskbound workers by four times.
To address these issues, Zoom is developing Zoom Workplace. This cloud-based communication solution aims to improve connectivity and engagement among frontline workers. The development involves teams from Zoom and potentially collaborators from Amazon Web Services (AWS), given their partnership in enhancing cloud-based communication solutions. However, specific details about the development team of Workvivo or their involvement in Zoom Workplace for frontline employees are not yet available.
The high churn rate among frontline workers is a pressing issue that businesses must address. Improving communication and recognising the contributions of frontline workers can increase employee happiness, engagement, and retention. The development of Zoom Workplace is a step towards bridging the communication gap, but businesses must also ensure that digital transformation efforts include and benefit frontline workers.
