World Car of the Year 2025: Top Finalists Announced Across Six Categories
The World Car of the Year awards has revealed its top three finalists in each of its six categories, following a global vote by 96 international motoring journalists. The winners will be announced on April 16th at the 2025 New York International Auto Show.
In the World Car Design category, the finalists are Kia EV3, Toyota Land Cruiser/Land Cruiser 250, and Volkswagen ID. Buzz. These cars were chosen from a short-list established by a panel of global design experts. Meanwhile, the World Electric Vehicle category sees Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric, Kia EV3, and Porsche Macan Electric in the running. The World Performance Car category features BMW M5, Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, and Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, while the World Luxury Car category includes Porsche Macan, Porsche Panamera, and Volvo EX90. The World Urban Car category has BYD Seagull/Dolphin Mini, Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric, and Mini Cooper Electric as finalists. Lastly, the top contenders for the overall World Car of the Year are BMW X3, Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric, and Kia EV3.
