Whoop Unveils Version 5.0 and MG Equipment, Introducing Pricing Tiers
Teasing the Release of Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG
After weeks of hype, sport tech company Whoop has officially announced the launch of its 5.0 device, complete with a "medical grade" variant, the Whoop MG. The Whoop 5.0 packs a 7% smaller design, a longer battery life, and internal upgrades, while the Whoop MG offers ECG readings and blood pressure estimates right from your wrist.
The Whoop 5.0, looking much like its predecessor, caters to fitness enthusiasts seeking integrated fitness and recovery tracking, and expert handling of strength training. It's only available through a subscription, with the 5.0 hardware bundled as part of the membership. Upgrading to the 5.0 or Whoop MG comes with a few options.
Longtime members exceeding 1,500 recoveries will receive a "Milestone collection" box with extra bands to accommodate the new device. Alternatively, members can upgrade for a $49 fee or by opting for one of the new membership tiers - One ($199/year), Peak ($239/year), or Life ($359/year).
Embracing Innovation - The Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG
The new Whoop 5.0 boasts a sleeker design and a battery life of 14 days - more than double that of the 4.0. In addition, a new power pack, available only to members of the Peak and Life tiers, ensures seamless charging on the go. While the hardware remains similar to the previous edition, the 5.0 boasts a 60% faster processor and "enhanced sensors."
The Whoop MG brings advanced health features, including ECG readings and blood pressure estimation directly from your wrist. Bear in mind that you'll need to calibrate the MG with readings from a blood pressure cuff to utilize the blood pressure monitoring feature initially.
Staffing Your Fitness Journey - Membership Tiers
The three new membership tiers cater to different needs:
- Whoop One ($199/year): Ideal for budget-conscious users, whoop One offers basic features, a wired charger, and a "CoreKnit" band - a new material that may not be as premium as the SuperKnit bands offered in the higher tiers.
- Whoop Peak ($239/year): Similar to the single subscription level for the 4.0, Peak offers a wireless charging puck, the new Healthspan feature that gives you your "Whoop age" and "pace of aging," and recommendations to improve these metrics.
- Whoop Life ($359/year): The top-tier membership comes with the MG device and all the features offered in the Peak tier, including Healthspan.
Upgrading and Renewal Policy
Current Whoop members may wonder about the upgrade process for the Whoop 5.0 or Whoop MG. Here's the scoop:
Members who renew their subscription for another 12 months will receive the new device for free. Alternatively, members can opt to pay a $49 upgrade fee to get the 5.0 device on their current membership term. Upon upgrading, the user will receive a "gift kit" containing a sanitizing wipe and a fresh SuperKnit band to pass along the old 4.0 device to a friend.
No Upgrade, No Problem
Those who forego upgrading can still enjoy their existing Whoop membership with the 4.0 device and continue to access all the features currently offered by the Peak membership. As always, your renewal will default to the Peak membership tier unless you choose otherwise.
