WhatsApp Beta Scam: Users Targeted by Fake Access Offers
Scammers are exploiting WhatsApp's closed beta program, targeting users eager to access new features. The program's limited capacity and lack of official channels have created an opportunity for fraudsters to dupe users into paying for fake access.
WhatsApp's beta program for iOS users is managed through Apple's TestFlight app. However, due to its limited capacity, once it reaches its maximum, new users cannot join unless someone leaves the program. This restriction has led scammers to prey on eager users.
Operating on multiple Telegram channels with over 6,000 subscribers, scammers use fake verification badges and repost messages from 'WABetaInfo' to appear credible. They claim access to exclusive features and charge between $25 and $50 for alleged access to the beta program. To bypass buyer protection, they use the 'Friends and Family' option on PayPal.
WhatsApp has clarified that it does not sell beta access and is not active on Telegram. The genuine beta program is invitation-only, and users should not pay for access.
WhatsApp users should be cautious of any offers for beta access, especially on platforms like Telegram. The genuine beta program is free and managed through official channels. Anyone offering paid access is likely a scammer. If you suspect a scam, report it to WhatsApp and relevant authorities.
