WeLion Delivers First Semi-Solid State Batteries to Nio, Partners with JAC Yiwei for 2025 EV
WeLion, a leading battery technology company, has delivered its first batch of advanced semi-solid state battery cells to Nio, a prominent electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer. This marks a significant milestone in the development of next-generation battery technology. Additionally, WeLion has partnered with JAC's new brand Yiwei to develop a new EV model, set to hit the market in 2025.
On June 30, 2023, WeLion supplied Nio with 360 Wh/kg semi-solid state battery cells. These cells are set to enhance the performance of Nio's vehicles. Notably, Nio's ET7 models equipped with the 150-kWh battery pack have demonstrated a real-world range of up to 1,070 kilometers. This impressive range is a testament to the potential of semi-solid state battery technology.
WeLion and JAC Yiwei have joined forces to develop a new EV model. This model will be powered by 4695 large cylindrical semi-solid battery cells, promising a significant range. The model is based on Yiwei's second-generation, all-electric, DI platform and is expected to have a range of 600 km to 1,000 km. Mass production is scheduled for 2025.
The strategic cooperation between WeLion and JAC was formalized on April 22, 2024. This partnership aims to accelerate the development and deployment of advanced battery technology in the EV sector. JAC launched its new brand Yiwei in April 2023 and began delivering a new sodium-ion battery variant in January 2024. Guo Yin, the founder of Yiwei Technology, is involved in machine vision technology and originated from Tianjin University.
The delivery of WeLion's first batch of semi-solid state battery cells to Nio signals a significant step forward in EV battery technology. The upcoming model from WeLion and JAC Yiwei, with its impressive range and advanced battery technology, is poised to make a substantial impact on the EV news when it begins mass production in 2025.
