Vietnam, Philippines Join Forces in Cebu City Recovery After Typhoon and Quake

In a show of international solidarity, the Viet Nam Coast Guard (VCG) has joined forces with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and local authorities to assist in recovery efforts following the devastating impact of Super Typhoon Bualoi and a 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Cebu city. Led by Major General Tran Quang Tuân, the VCG delegation is currently in the Philippines on a working and exchange visit.

The joint effort has seen military doctors from the VCG collaborate with PCG medical personnel to provide free health check-ups and medicine to those affected in the hardest-hit areas. Travelling over 100 kilometers, the delegation, along with PCG members, reached Bogo province, where the damage was severe. The typhoon and earthquake have resulted in 69 deaths, over 150 injuries, and the destruction of over 3,500 houses, with estimated damages of 1.7 billion PHP (US$29.3 million).

In a significant gesture of support, the VCG delegation presented one tonne of rice, instant noodles, dry rations, and bottled water to local authorities and residents in Bogo province.

The VCG's assistance, alongside the PCG, has been crucial in providing immediate relief and support to the affected communities. As recovery efforts continue, the international cooperation demonstrated here is a testament to the shared commitment to helping those in need.
