Upgrade Your LG Phone Before Support Ends
In the old days, LG was a significant player in the smartphone game. But times change, and they exited the market in April 2021, leaving fewer options for Android users, especially in the U.S.
Back in the day, LG produced some real gems. Take the V20, for instance, with its cool secondary display, or the LG Wing, featuring a unique swiveling second display. LG churned out a mix of good, great, and forgettable phones. But in the last four years, we haven't seen any new LG phones.
LG didn't just desert its customers though. They offered a three-year update guarantee, which has actually come in handy since we're now four years past LG's smartphone departure. Sadly, even good things must come to an end, and LG's software support is no exception.
According to Android Authority, LG is shutting down its update servers soon. Once they do, you won't be able to install updates on your LG device. Plus, they're closing down LG Bridge, the software used for backing up phones to PC and installing updates. The end is near, with a deadline of June 30, 2025. If you have LG devices with outstanding updates, upgrade now.
Keep in mind that LG phones from 2021 won't be eligible for Android 15 or Android 16 updates. They were only delivering updates for Android 12 and Android 13. These updates are important, as they contain the latest security patches. If you're still using these devices, update them immediately to ensure security, as no further security updates are coming.
With no future updates on the horizon, it might be time to consider upgrading to a new phone. Check out PCMag's list of the best Android smartphones for 2025—all of which will continue to receive updates.
