UK Startup Rafiki Set to Transform Africa's Professional Services Subcontracting
Rafiki, a UK-based startup co-founded by South African entrepreneur Greg Cooke, is set to revolutionize Africa's professional services subcontracting corridors. Currently in private beta, Rafiki is opening its pre-seed round, backed by several investors, as it prepares for a wider rollout.
Cooke, leading Growth and Product at Rafiki, had his 'aha' moment while working with a German client. He realized that legacy systems were inadequate for cross-border news and collaboration. Thus, Rafiki was born - a software that streamlines cross-border subcontracting using stablecoin rails and multi-party invoicing.
Targeting agencies, independents, and small businesses, Rafiki embeds a fractional talent community into its SaaS. This taps into Africa's shift toward collaborative, micro-agency work models. Cooke believes the biggest misconception about multi-party subcontracting is that it's solely about cost-cutting, not collective value creation. He envisions the fractional economy in Africa becoming a leading global powerhouse.
Rafiki, with Cooke at the helm, specializes in simplifying cross-border subcontractor accounting. By leveraging their expertise in finance and technology, they aim to address complexities in international business transactions. Cooke's wish, if he could wave a magic wand, would be to bridge the gap in security, benefits, and financial services for independents and micro-agencies in Africa's freelance economy. Outside of work, Cooke stays grounded and inspired through running and discovering new music.
