Google's Pixel Series Gains Ground in U.S. Market

Google's Pixel series has made a significant stride in the U.S. smartphone market, according to the latest reports from Canalys. The tech giant shipped 0.8 million units of its Pixel series during Q2 2025, marking a 13% year-over-year growth. This growth has propelled Pixel into the top five in the U.S. market, placing it in fourth place.

In Q2 2025, Google owned a 3% market share of the U.S. smartphone market. While this may seem modest compared to market leaders Samsung (31%) and Apple (49%), Pixel's growth has been steady and consistent. Motorola, with a 12% market share, holds a slightly larger share, but Pixel's growth suggests a growing niche for Google in the U.S. market.

Samsung's growth, however, has been more substantial, with a 38% annual growth in Q2 2025. This growth is primarily driven by Samsung's budget series, the Galaxy A line. On the other hand, Apple saw an 11% dip in the U.S. smartphone market during the same quarter.

The U.S. smartphone market saw an 11% year-over-year (YoY) decline in smartphone shipments to 13.3 billion units during Q2 2025. Despite this overall decline, Google's Pixel series has managed to carve out a space for itself in the market.

Looking ahead, the upcoming Pixel 10 series launch in Q3 2025 is expected to sustain or boost Pixel's U.S. sales slightly beyond Q2 levels, as prior launches have incrementally improved market share. However, specific projections for Q3 are not detailed in current reports.

Canalys researchers suggest that the top three creators have a strong hold over the market, leaving a small opportunity for the remaining vendors. To break into the market, other OEMs could consider creating stores for consumers to walk into, potentially improving the market's attractiveness.

In January 2024, Google and its Pixel line started breaking into the premium smartphone market in India with a significant growth of approximately 4% between January 2024 and September 2024. The success of the Pixel series in India, coupled with its growing presence in the U.S. market, suggests a promising future for Google in the smartphone industry.

The upcoming Made by Google event in August is expected to showcase the Pixel 10 series and other products, providing more insights into Google's strategy for the second half of 2025.
