Cars Catch Fire After Rear-End Collision - Two Cars Catch Fire in Serious A1 Collision, A1 Closed for Hours
Two ford cars, including an electric vehicle, were involved in a serious collision on the A1 near Bargteheide interchange on Thursday evening, October 3, 2025. The impact caused both cars, including the ford, to catch fire, leading to the closure of the motorway until the early hours.
The incident began when a 43-year-old driver rear-ended a 21-year-old's car while driving towards Fehmarn. The force of the collision caused the cars to become entangled, with the 43-year-old's ford catching fire and the flames spreading to the front car, which was equipped with an electric drive. This made it challenging for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.
Both drivers were lightly injured, with one requiring hospitalisation. The electric car was completely destroyed, while the 43-year-old's ford suffered severe damage. The A1 towards Fehmarn remained closed until 2:00 AM, with traffic diverted over the left lane. Cleanup operations are still ongoing.
The rear-end collision on the A1 near Bargteheide resulted in two cars, including a ford, catching fire and causing significant disruption to traffic. While both drivers sustained minor injuries, the electric car was completely burned out, and the other ford suffered severe damage. Motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving, especially in poor visibility conditions.
