Twitter subsidiary profileiaomi files for a single-motor version of YU7, anticipated summer launch
In the ever-evolving world of electric vehicles, a new competitor has emerged in China, challenging Tesla's recently launched facelifted Model Y. The iAiomi YU7, a crossover SUV, has been making waves in the industry, with its single-motor variant using lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries from BYD and FinDreams Battery.
Lei Jun, the founder, chairman, and CEO of iAiomi, recently shared a screenshot of a portion of Tesla's WeChat post on Weibo, hinting at the YU7's competitive edge. The post, titled "Updated Model Y, (you can) compare anyway," suggests that other models may not match up to the crossover.
The YU7, with a length, width, and height of 4,999 mm, 1,996 mm, and 1,608 mm, and a wheelbase of 3,000, is set to launch in June or July, as announced on December 9. Its single-motor variant weighs 2,315 kg and supports a top speed of 240 km/h, with a peak power of 235 kW.
Meanwhile, Tesla today launched the facelifted five-seat Model Y in China, offering two "Launch Series" variants with deliveries expected to begin in March. The dual-motor versions of the Model Y use Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) batteries, with a usable capacity of approximately 75 kWh, though variations may exist depending on the specific trim.
The YU7 has been included in the latest catalog of models by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for public comment, allowing citizens to submit feedback between January 11-17. The dual-motor version of the YU7 uses Li-ion ternary batteries from CATL, similar to iAiomi's first model, the SU7 motor sedan.
However, specific details about the battery type used in the iQIYI YU7, including its dual-motor version, are not readily available. If more information becomes available, a more detailed comparison could be made between the two vehicles.
As the YU7 prepares to enter the market, it will join several local competitors vying for a share of the electric vehicle market in China, creating an exciting landscape for the industry.
