In the realm of cutting-edge technology, a dazzling vision materializes—the futuristic microchip processor, bathed in a radiant blue backdrop. This is no ordinary processor; it's a quantum computer, a machine capable of handling vast amounts of data and processing information at an unprecedented speed.

Title: Embracing the Future: Anticipating Quantum Leaps in Growth

Get Set for Quantum Prowess in 2025!

John Prisco, the security CEO and founder of Safe Quantum Inc., works diligently with data-driven companies to establish and implement quantum-safe technologies.

The world celebrates 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, a special tribute to Werner Heisenberg's efforts to decipher the mathematical underpinnings of quantum phenomena, marking its centennial.

AI might have garnered more limelight lately, even suggesting it might outshine quantum, but it's undeniable that the coming year should witness continued progress in quantum technology.

First, there's a shift in focus toward rectifying some quantum computing challenges.

Take 2024, for instance, where qubit count dominated the quantum computing landscape. However, recent years have witnessed a shift toward error correction and fault-tolerant quantum computers, moving us from quantity to quality.

Indeed, AI can contribute to error correction, ensuring a harmonious coexistence of AI and quantum technology in 2025.

Second, it's time to adjust expectations around the availability of a cryptographically relevant quantum computer – also known as a CRQC or "fault-tolerant" computer, which boasts the power to break standard public-key encryption.

Initial expectations pinned 2025 as the year for this revolution, but now projections point towards 2030 as a more realistic milestone. This extended timeline allows security professionals more time to establish their post-quantum security strategy and safeguard their most critical data assets (for additional context, refer to our articles on defense in depth & perfect forward secrecy).

Third, the release of post-quantum cryptography (PQC) algorithms from the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) is anticipated to fuel exponential growth in the development of quantum-safe encryption worldwide.

These mathematical solutions are essential to replace current public-key encryption, offering a necessary step towards quantum readiness.

Consequently, the fourth trend on our radar for 2025 is an increased adoption of quantum-key distribution (QKD) technologies.

In my view, QKD remains the most fascinating topic in the realm of quantum-proof security now, protecting against data-harvesting attacks before quantum computers can crack encryption codes.

Versus the business scenario, 2025 is set to witness an increase in activities from quantum startups.

IonQ ignited the M&A merry-go-round for quantum startups in 2021, becoming the first publicly traded pure-play quantum computing company. The follow-up move involved IonQ filing to acquire Qubitekk as part of its strategy to apply distributed computer development to progress towards a CRQC computer in data centers.

I foresee IonQ, alongside others, just beginning its acquisition spree in 2025, possibly extending to Europe.

In conclusion, while technical advancements will continue in quantum technology, as in previous years, the landscape will start to mature with more companies seeking a competitive go-to-market position in the shifting quantum arena.

John Prisco's expertise in quantum-safe technologies will be instrumental in helping companies navigate the quantum landscape in 2025, as the world embraces the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.

In 2025, IonQ and other quantum startups, including John Prisco's Safe Quantum Inc., are expected to accelerate their growth and acquisition strategies, furthering the adoption of quantum technology in the business world.
