Thousands of Gamers Gather for Gamescom Debut, Witnessing New Gaming Releases
Gamescom 2022 Kicks Off with Exciting New Game Announcements
Gamescom 2022, Europe's largest video game fair, has officially begun, and the excitement is palpable. Thousands of gaming enthusiasts are flocking to the Cologne exhibition halls, eager to try out the latest offerings in the world of video games.
This year, several prominent figures are among the guests, including Hendrik Wüst (CDU), the NRW minister president, and Dorothee Bär (CSU), the federal research minister responsible for the industry. Eefje Depoortere, known as Sjokz in the gaming and e-sports scene, set the tone for the event, saying, "We're here to play - and it's just getting started."
The event kicked off with the presentation of several dozen trailers for new video and computer games. One of the most highly anticipated titles is "Hollow Knight: Silksong," the sequel to the acclaimed Metroidvania game Hollow Knight. A demo of the game was available on the show floor, and a special announcement stream to reveal the release date is planned.
Another exciting announcement came in the form of "Call of Duty: Black Ops 7." The first-person shooter game sends up to four players as a team into an apocalyptic future where they also have to fight against the psychological terror of dark forces. The game features an "endgame" mode with intense multi-enemy battles.
The LEGO Batman universe also made an appearance at Gamescom 2022. Two games were presented: "Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight" and a new LEGO Batman Arkham-themed game. The latter became the top-trending new game at the event, blending LEGO's charm with the Arkham universe.
Other notable games showcased at the event include "Death by Scrolling," a retro-style game reminiscent of gaming 30 years ago, and "Bloodlines 2," a game about vampires. The horror classic "Resident Evil" is also being remade and is called "Resident Evil - Requiem."
In addition, several existing announced titles, such as "World of Warcraft - Midnight" and "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction," featured new trailers and gameplay reveals to maintain momentum and hype during the event.
Many streaming services, including Netflix, Disney+, and Paramount+, were also present at Gamescom 2022. Amazon Prime showcased the second season of "Fallout."
With more than 1,500 exhibitors present at the event, a new record, the games shown at Gamescom 2022 are set to hit the market in the coming months or in 2026. The actual trade fair begins on Wednesday morning and ends on Sunday, providing gamers with several days to immerse themselves in the world of video games.
