The reimagined multiplayer of Battlefield 6 suggests a comeback to the franchise's original identity

Battlefield 6, the highly anticipated video game from DICE and Electronic Arts (EA), is set to release on October 10. The game has seen a solid upgrade in graphics, and it promises to deliver an immersive gaming experience.

The game will feature nine maps at launch, including a remake of Operation Firestorm from Battlefield 3. These maps cater to a variety of battlefield scenarios, with both wide-open battlefields and closer-range maps. One of the maps, as teased in the trailer, is set in New York City, featuring the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Battlefield 6 is the strong rumour of a battle royale mode, although it has not been officially confirmed by EA. Leaks and teasers suggest that this mode is in development, with elements similar to Battlefield 5’s battle royale, Firestorm, such as environmental hazards like a shrinking circle of fire. It is rumoured that this battle royale mode could be free-to-play, differing from previous Battlefield attempts.

EA has started promoting the mode with teasers around the time of the multiplayer reveal but has stopped short of full disclosure. The timing of the mode’s launch remains uncertain; it may come sometime after the main game’s release cycle begins.

In Battlefield 6, players will take on roles based on the current need in the fight. The old class system (Recon, Assault, Engineer, and Support) is making a comeback, and the Support class, in particular, has the ability to pull injured players behind cover and out of the line of fire.

The game will include all the fan-favourite multiplayer modes like Conquest, Rush, and Breakthrough. The public beta for Battlefield 6 will start on August 7 and 8 for those signed up for Battlefield Labs. This is a great chance to test the waters before the game officially launches this October.

DICE seems to have learned from its mistakes in Battlefield 2042 by not featuring 128-player battles in Battlefield 6. The game will be restricted to 64-player battles, and the door for larger maps remains open through Battlefield Labs.

Portal makes an appearance in Battlefield 6, allowing players to create custom game modes and experiences. The objectives in Portal-created games in Battlefield 6 look like they're taken straight from the Halo custom game manual, offering a new level of creativity and customisation for players.

In summary, while EA has not officially confirmed a battle royale mode in Battlefield 6 as of late July 2025, strong evidence from leaks and company teasers make its eventual arrival very likely. Players can look forward to a return of the classic class system, immersive graphics, and a variety of maps in this exciting new installment of the Battlefield series.
