Tesla Bolsters Supercharger Network in India Ahead of Model Y Deliveries

Tesla has kicked off its Supercharger network expansion in India with the launch of its first charging hub in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The new hub, which features four V4 DC supercharging stalls and four AC destination chargers, is part of a larger plan to establish a robust charging infrastructure across the country.

The company is set to rapidly expand its presence, with at least three more supercharging facilities planned for Mumbai - in Lower Parel, Thane, and Navi Mumbai - by the end of September 2025. In Delhi-NCR, Tesla has recently opened its second Indian experience center in Aerocity and plans to operationalize supercharger stations in Gurugram, Saket, and Noida in the near future. Bengaluru is also set to receive Tesla supercharger infrastructure and a service center soon.

The new charging stations will be instrumental in supporting the upcoming deliveries of the Tesla Model Y, expected in Q3 and Q4 of 2025. The initial focus for Tesla's Supercharger hubs is on the major metropolitan regions of Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, with a goal of driving early adoption of Tesla vehicles in India.

The charging setup at the new Supercharger hubs is designed for both long trips and quick top-ups during busy days. The V4 Superchargers can add approximately 267 km of driving range in just 15 minutes, making them faster and more efficient than the slower AC destination chargers. The cost for using the V4 Superchargers is Rs. 24 per unit of electricity (kWh), while the AC destination chargers cost around Rs. 14 per unit, making a full charge cost between Rs. 900 and Rs. 1,100 for the slower chargers and between Rs. 1,400 and Rs. 1,800 for the V4 Superchargers.

Tesla's app facilitates the charging and payment processes, providing real-time battery status and locating available chargers. The company also plans to open service centers in these cities to support its vehicle owners.

In summary, Tesla's current Supercharger hubs include Mumbai (BKC) and Delhi (Aerocity), with Gurugram set to join soon. Planned expansions include additional superchargers in Mumbai (Lower Parel, Navi Mumbai, Thane), Delhi (Saket, Noida), and Bengaluru, with each city set to have 16 supercharging stations, each with multiple stalls, complemented by several destination chargers. The charging specs peak at 250 kW for the V4 Superchargers, while destination chargers provide 11 kW. The company is committed to delivering on its announced plans, with a focus on building a robust Supercharger network in India's largest metro areas well ahead of vehicle deliveries.
