Tesla's Extended Service Agreement (ESA) Now Available in Canada

Tesla has introduced its Extended Service Agreement (ESA) program in Canada, offering a flexible and subscription-based extended warranty solution for vehicle owners. The program mirrors the version launched in the United States in June.

The ESA provides protection for up to 48 months or 80,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. The subscription-based model offers flexibility that traditional extended warranties typically lack.

The pricing for the ESA varies by vehicle model. For instance, the monthly costs are:

  • Model S: C$170 per month
  • Model 3: C$70 per month
  • Model X: C$205 per month
  • Model Y: C$80 per month
  • Cybertruck: Not available at this time

Customers who maintain the subscription for the full term will pay a maximum total of C$3,840 for the Model Y example given, with proportional totals for other models based on their monthly rates. Coverage starts immediately after the original vehicle warranty expires, and customers can cancel anytime, with coverage continuing until the end of the paid month.

It's important to note that the ESA does not cover bodywork or paint damage, issues caused by accidents, modifications, or normal wear and tear, routine maintenance parts such as brake pads, wiper blades, and tires, cosmetic repairs, or items already covered under the Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty. Each service visit under the ESA is subject to a C$135 deductible.

Tesla will be offering a three-month extension for those who purchased a two-year ESA, starting in late July. To subscribe to the ESA, owners must navigate to Upgrades > Service Plans > Extended Service Agreement in the Tesla app.

For more information about the ESA, owners can visit Tesla's website. It's a great option for those who want to extend their coverage without paying a lump sum.
