TenTech's Laser Tech Boosts 3D Print Quality
TenTech has developed a new technique to enhance 3D print quality. The process involves attaching a laser to a 3D printer, reducing visual artifacts and smoothing layer lines.
TenTech, in collaboration with ACI Laser GmbH, has mounted a 1.5 watt diode laser on a 3D printer. This innovation aims to reduce optical blurring in prints.
The laser smoothing process has shown promising results. It noticeably improved the quality of prints, especially on fine geometry, making layer lines smoother and shinier. However, it did cause discoloration in pink filament, while darker filaments remained unaffected.
Tests on candle molds showed minimal difference in quality between smoothed and unprocessed candles. The smoothing process uses non-planar printer movements to maintain ideal laser focus, ensuring consistent results.
TenTech's laser smoothing technique has the potential to significantly improve 3D print quality. While it caused discoloration in certain filaments, it maintained or improved the quality of prints and molds in most cases. Further testing is needed to fully understand its capabilities.
