Telecommunications company Movistar enlists the services of Wunderman Thompson and Accenture Interactive to aid in developing a novel brand strategy.
Movistar, the telecommunications company owned by Telefonica, has reorganized its entertainment offer following the introduction of a three-pillar content structure last summer, which includes sports, entertainment, and original programming.
The latest strategic moves by Movistar aim to expand exclusive and diversified content with major studios and platforms, rather than direct partnerships with streaming services such as Disney, Netflix, or DAZN.
Expanding Content with Sony Pictures Entertainment
Movistar Plus+ has renewed and extended an exclusive Pay 1 home agreement in Spain for Sony Pictures films after their theatrical and home entertainment windows. This deal grants Movistar Plus+ subscribers access at no extra cost to over 100 full series via AXN Now, including titles such as Damages and The Shield, as well as Sony Pictures Television originals.
Strengthening BBC's Content Presence
A significant expansion of a long-term partnership has introduced BBC Player, a VOD service offering up to 1,000 hours of curated scripted and unscripted content, plus new Fast Channels (Free Ad-supported Streaming TV) available to Movistar Plus+ subscribers in Spain. This multi-year deal further strengthens BBC’s content presence within Movistar’s platform.
Improving Content Accessibility with Titan OS TVs
Movistar Plus+ has integrated its streaming service on Philips Smart TVs powered by Titan OS across Spain, enhancing content accessibility directly through TV interfaces. This includes films, series, and live sports like LaLiga and Champions League, improving user experience through connected TV adoption.
As of the latest available information, no new direct strategic partnerships with Disney+, Netflix, or DAZN have been announced with Movistar’s entertainment offer. Movistar Plus+ continues to focus on exclusive film and series content deals and enhanced platform distribution to maintain its leading position in Spain’s streaming market.
In other news, Movistar has appointed Accenture Interactive as its digital marketing agency and Wunderman Thompson (WT) Spain as its strategic and creative agency. The reorganization is not related to these appointments or any other agencies mentioned earlier.
Movistar operates across Spain and Spanish-speaking parts of America, and the reorganization does not involve changes in its geographical coverage or the services provided, which include television, internet, alarms, mobile devices, and entertainment services. The reorganization is aimed at Movistar's entertainment offer, with the company pursuing strategic partnerships with streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney, and DAZN.
