"Taiwanese Farm to Receive 495 MW Illumination from Glamox"
In a significant development for the offshore wind sector, Glamox has been awarded a contract to supply LED lighting for the Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm, located 35 kilometres off the coast of Taichung, Taiwan. This project is a joint venture between Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP) and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).
Glamox will provide approximately 920 marine-certified LED luminaires for the project, including 35 RLX C floodlights and 884 MIR G2 WOF luminaires. These energy-efficient LEDs boast a design lifespan of 100,000 hours at 45°C and feature a three-hour battery backup for power outages.
The lighting equipment will be installed by SK OceanPlant in Goseong County, South Korea, and ProCon Taiwan at Century Wind Power's yard in New Taipei City, Taiwan. Delivery of the lighting equipment is scheduled for the summer of 2025, with the project completion targeted by the end of 2027.
The LED lighting will be installed on the wind turbine foundation transition pieces, critical components that connect the wind turbines to their foundations and serve as primary access points to the turbine towers. Proper lighting here is essential for the safety of inspection and maintenance teams, and to ensure functionality during emergencies.
Glamox emphasizes the durability of their lighting against extreme weather, vibrations, and corrosive saltwater, underpinning safety in harsh offshore environments.
This contract marks Glamox’s third Taiwanese offshore wind project, following the Hai Long Wind Farm 2 and 3, and the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 projects announced in March 2024. The company's involvement in these projects underscores their significant role in Taiwan’s offshore wind sector.
The Fengmiao 1 offshore wind farm is part of a larger project that involves multiple companies, including Vestas, CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE), Glamox, SK oceanplant, ProCon Taiwan, and Century Wind Power. Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) is responsible for overall development, financing, construction supervision, and operational targets, while Century Wind Power is involved at the installation level.
