Streamlined Electrified CLA Shooting Brake by Mercedes for an Efficient Electric Cargo Vehicle
The automotive world is abuzz with the unveiling of the 2026 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake, the first official electric estate car from Mercedes-Benz. This innovative vehicle, built on the new Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, promises to redefine the premium electric estate segment.
The CLA Shooting Brake will initially be offered as a fully electric vehicle (EV), with two launch variants: the CLA 250+ and the CLA 350 4MATIC. Both models are equipped with an 85 kWh battery, delivering impressive power and range. The CLA 250+ boasts a WLTP range of up to 761 km (473 miles), translating roughly to about 400 miles EPA range, while the CLA 350 AWD model offers a range of about 730 km (454 miles WLTP) or roughly 386 miles EPA.
Acceleration for the CLA 250+ is impressive, reaching 0-62 mph in 6.8 seconds, while the CLA Shooting Brake's 800-volt electrical system enables ultra-fast DC charging, capable of adding approximately 310 km (193 miles) of range in just 10 minutes. AC charging is up to 22 kW, and DC charging can peak at 320 kW.
The Shooting Brake configuration offers a longer roofline than the sedan, increasing rear passenger headroom by about an inch and adding extra cargo space. The cargo capacity is 46 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, with an additional 4 cubic feet in the front trunk (frunk). The vehicle also comes with roof rails for more storage capacity.
In terms of design, the Shooting Brake is aerodynamically efficient, with a low drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.21 on 17" wheels, improving efficiency. The overall length is 4.72 meters (186 inches), with a slightly longer wheelbase than previous models and a raised roofline for better interior space.
The interior of the CLA Shooting Brake is equipped with advanced tech features, including a 12.2-inch head-up display, customizable ambient lighting, heated seats, biometric login, and USB-C ports with fast charging up to 100 watts. Optional features include an LED front grille, matrix LED lights, and a panoramic glass roof.
The 2026 Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake directly competes with electric offerings from Audi and BMW, particularly aiming at the premium electric estate/wagon segment where competitors are only beginning to respond. Mercedes is positioning the CLA Shooting Brake as a unique electric estate with class-leading range and technology, targeting rivals such as the Audi A4 Avant e-tron and potential BMW electric wagons that have yet to fully emerge in this segment.
The CLA Shooting Brake is expected to launch in Europe in March 2026, but it will not be sold in the United States, where only the sedan version of the CLA will be available. For more details, visit Mercedes-Benz.co.uk.
