startupfunding: Inflection Point Ventures reveals $110 million fund for Indian and international startups' support
Inflection Point Ventures (IPV) has expanded its investment horizons with the launch of IPV International, a $110 million Category I Angel Fund registered under the GIFT City's International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) framework [1][2][3][4]. This move allows IPV to invest in early-stage to pre-Series A startups globally, with investment sizes ranging from $100,000 to $1 million per startup.
Based in GIFT City, IPV International is sector-agnostic but maintains a strategic focus on high-growth sectors, without specifying particular industries in detail [1][2][3][4]. The fund's first investment has been in Cellivate Technologies, a Singapore-based deeptech biotech startup developing an ethical and scalable alternative to fetal bovine serum for biotech and pharmaceutical applications [1][2][3][4].
The GIFT City structure, according to IPV, makes it easier for foreign investors to invest [5]. The fund has already received both the Fund Registration Certificate and the Fund Management Entity (FME) license from IFSCA to operate within the city's framework.
The launch of IPV International enables IPV to scale beyond national borders, engage with global startup ecosystems, and align with the rapidly shifting dynamics of the venture capital and private equity markets [6]. The average ticket size for investments made by the new fund will be between $100,000 to $1 million (around Rs 87 lakh to Rs 8.7 crore) [7].
IPV has already made one investment through the new fund, in Cellivate Technologies, and has exited from 50 companies so far [8]. The venture-capital firm, Physis Capital, was launched by IPV in 2022, and the first close of the fund occurred in April 2023 [9]. Physis Capital collected Rs 200 crore for its maiden fund [10].
IPV is experiencing strong interest from foreign investors, in addition to Indians and non-resident Indians (NRIs), who are keen on investing in India's startup ecosystem [11]. Over the course of its operation, IPV has backed over 220 startups [12].
