Spotify Launches Audiobook Add-On in the US, Reveals Three Overlooked Additional Features

In the world of music streaming, Spotify continues to innovate, recently introducing two significant updates to its service. Let's delve into these exciting new features.

Firstly, Spotify's latest offering is a custom playlist transition tool[1][2][3][4][5], currently in beta and available exclusively for Premium subscribers. This feature allows users to create seamless transitions between songs in their playlists, enhancing the listening experience by eliminating awkward silences and enabling smooth song flow.

Key aspects of this new audio mixing feature include a Mix Button available in the playlist toolbar, an Auto Option for instant blends, and customization options that let users manually adjust transitions by selecting presets such as "Fade" or "Rise" or fine-tune settings including volume, EQ (equalization), and effect curves for precise control. Spotify also provides visualized waveforms, beats-per-minute (BPM), and key information of tracks to help find the ideal points for transitions.

Moreover, the transition editor supports collaborative playlist mixing with friends who are also Premium users. Users can choose to enable or disable the Mix function while listening, and Spotify recommends this tool mostly for genres conducive to smooth transitions, like house or techno, or for playlists with consistent BPM to maintain flow and vibe[1][2][3][4][5].

This feature directly competes with Apple Music's AutoMix, offering not only similar instant blends but also deeper user customization, positioning Spotify as a strong player in playlist audio mixing[1][2]. It aims to give users more creative control and a DJ-like experience while listening.

Secondly, Spotify has revamped its Discover Weekly playlist, first introduced 10 years ago, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The update includes a fresh design with bold, striking graphics that change with each weekly update. Additionally, the revamped Discover Weekly playlist now features genre filters, allowing users to search through up to five different genres based on their listening history[1][2][3][4].

This update to Discover Weekly is intended to enhance the user's music exploration experience. When a genre filter is selected, it creates a 30-song playlist for a new music discovery adventure. The Discover Weekly playlist update does not affect its original purpose of exposing users to new music releases and artists.

To access the Music Following feed, users need to tap the 'Music' filter at the top of the Spotify homepage. The new Music Following feed provides a designated space for users to preview, play, and save new music. It shows the latest releases from the artists you follow, making it easier for users to discover new music from their favourite artists.

In other updates, Spotify has introduced a new Audiobooks+ subscription add-on for US users. The Discover Weekly playlist update does not include any changes to its release day, which is every Monday, and it does not affect its automatic updating based on the user's listening history.

In response to user feedback, Spotify has also addressed the issue of the Create button by adding the option to remove it from the Spotify app[1][2]. This move should help prevent the button's interference with muscle memory.

These updates demonstrate Spotify's commitment to providing its users with a unique and personalized music streaming experience. With the custom playlist transition tool and the revamped Discover Weekly playlist, Spotify continues to innovate and cater to the needs of its users.
