Jaecoo 5 Crossover SUV Makes a Strong Debut in the UK Market
The Chinese automotive brand Jaecoo has made a significant splash in the UK market with the launch of its new crossover SUV, the Jaecoo 5. Just seven months after its sale, the vehicle has already surpassed 10,000 orders, following in the footsteps of its sibling model, the Jaecoo 7, which sold over 8,000 units since its UK launch earlier in 2025.
The Jaecoo 5 is priced competitively, starting from around £24,505 on-the-road, and is positioned as a compact SUV offering premium features with a focus on safety and technology. It competes in the small SUV segment against popular models like the Ford Puma, Volkswagen T-Cross, Nissan Juke, Peugeot 2008, and Renault Captur, with a size closer to the larger end of the segment, measuring almost 4.4 meters.
Key features of the Jaecoo 5 include a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 147 PS and 275 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Safety is highlighted by a global five-star safety rating, Level 2 autonomous driving, and a suite of 19 ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems) safety functions aimed at reducing driver fatigue and increasing road safety. Modern technology such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a premium Sony sound system, adaptive cruise control, and an in-car karaoke feature are also included. The vehicle offers practicality with over 35 storage spaces and up to 1,180 litres of boot space with the rear seats down. Distinctive styling, premium finishes, and features like an ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control, cooled front storage box, and a large tilt and slide sunroof in top trims are also notable.
The front-wheel-drive configuration with chassis specially tuned for UK roads by Chery International’s European R&D centre ensures a smooth ride. The brand’s "Enjoy Each Moment Outdoors" ethos and extensive safety and convenience technologies have been well emphasized in promotional statements, indicating focus on safety-conscious and tech-savvy consumers.
The initial UK launch focuses on the petrol model, with an electric vehicle (EV) version planned shortly after, expected to offer around 250 miles of range, appealing to the growing UK demand for electrified SUVs. The vehicle was showcased successfully at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, helping build brand momentum and demonstrating its versatility and appeal in dynamic driving situations.
