Skoda showcases design for forthcoming station wagon with Vision 0 Concept reveal
Skoda Auto is set to make a significant leap in the automotive industry with the unveiling of its new concept car, the Vision O, at the Munich Motor Show in Germany in September. This electric estate car is expected to be a key player in shaping Skoda's future load-lugging vehicles, including potential successors to the Octavia Estate and Superb Estate.
The Vision O follows Skoda's current styling theme, Modern Solid, which has been previously showcased on the Elroq small SUV and refreshed Enyaq. The concept car is expected to feature an evolution of this design language, characterised by the illuminated 'Tech-Deck Face', a modern take on the traditional Skoda grille.
The design of the Vision O reflects an emphasis on aerodynamics and modern aesthetics, with sleek silhouette, wraparound rear LED tail lights, slim front headlights, a steeply raked windscreen, a gently sloping roofline, and a kick-down rear tailgate for a sharper look. The design also emphasises recycling and reuse of components to reduce environmental impact during production.
Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, stated that the Vision O design study will highlight the future trajectory of estate models under the influence of new technologies, sustainability, and Skoda's deep experience in this segment. The Vision O is expected to be a significant step in developing and evolving Skoda's design language for the transition in the automotive industry.
While no specific details have been released about what the Vision O will look like, it is rumoured to be under five meters in length, which suggests it could be Octavia-sized. The Vision O concept car is anticipated to feature a pure-electric powertrain, and it is expected to use the Volkswagen Group's new SSP architecture.
The Vision O's world premiere is scheduled for early September 2025. It remains to be seen if a future Octavia-sized electric estate would replace the existing petrol- and hybrid-powered Octavia. Skoda may decide to extend the current Octavia's lifecycle instead of replacing it with an electric version.
Regardless, the Vision O concept car is an exciting preview of Skoda’s future electric estate cars, combining modern design, sustainability, and advanced technology. It serves as a testament to Skoda's 100-year history in making estate cars and positions Skoda to remain a major player in the estate segment, where they have been engaged since the 1920s.
