Essential original parts, such as the CPU (ASIC chip), cartridge reader, and link port, have been carefully desoldered from old Game Gear boards sourced from eBay and transplanted onto the new motherboard.
One of the most noticeable changes is the HD screen, offering a much clearer and sharper display compared to the original's low-res screen. The Ultimate SEGA Game Gear also boasts stereo audio output, achieved with a custom audio board by SYF and dual aftermarket speakers, replacing the original mono single-speaker setup.

The Ultimate SEGA Game Gear also sports a specially crafted modern custom shell with a 2025 aesthetic, featuring matte gray coloring with orange button accents and detailed Japanese lettering. This not only enhances the looks but also improves the ergonomics of the device.
Additional features include a region toggle switch on the motherboard, enabling users to switch between North American and Japanese game settings, and FM sound support for Master System games, improving the audio-visual fidelity overall.
