Security Platform Secures $12.5 Million in Seed Funding
Cybersecurity Startup Root Evidence Raises $12.5 Million to Revolutionize Vulnerability Management
Root Evidence, a pioneering cybersecurity startup, has secured $12.5 million in a seed round, led by Ballistic Ventures. The company aims to revolutionize vulnerability management by focusing on evidence-based security, prioritizing decisions with the strongest risk evidence.
Founded by Jeremiah Grossman, Robert "RSnake" Hansen, Heather Konold, and serial cybersecurity entrepreneur Lex Arquette, Root Evidence is backed by a team with decades of experience in the industry. Arquette co-founded WhiteHat Security and built Meta's (formerly Facebook) homepage and growth systems, while Grossman co-founded WhiteHat Security, joined SentinelOne as Chief of Security Strategy, and co-founded Bit Discovery.
The startup's approach is to provide evidence of which known vulnerabilities have the highest potential for causing damage if left unaddressed. Instead of treating all vulnerabilities equally, Root Evidence enables security teams to concentrate on those vulnerabilities proven to be exploited "in the wild," leading to breaches and material losses.
By focusing on the vulnerabilities supported by "root evidence"—proof of exploitation and actual breach impact—Root Evidence aims to reduce the overwhelming volume of vulnerability alerts many organizations face. This approach helps organizations calculate the financial risk associated with specific vulnerabilities, allowing them to prioritize remediation efforts that genuinely reduce the chance of a breach and translate directly into cost savings.
Root Evidence's approach offers several key benefits. It prioritizes remediation, guiding security teams to fix vulnerabilities that have the greatest impact first, reducing unnecessary effort and improving efficiency. The approach also helps reduce alert overload, enabling faster and more focused responses without exhausting security teams. Furthermore, Root Evidence connects vulnerability fixing to measurable reductions in breach likelihood and financial risk, helping justify remediation investments to business stakeholders.
Roger Thorton, a partner at Ballistic Ventures, expressed his support for the Root Evidence team, stating that their approach is exactly what's needed to solve the antiquated problem of vulnerability management in the industry. The Ballistic partners believe the Root Evidence team has the potential to change how the industry approaches security.
The investment supports Root Evidence's goal of providing solutions that turn digital risk into measurable business results. The startup plans to use the funds to continue developing its innovative platform and expanding its team.
