The DJI Neo 2, a potential successor to the DJI Neo drone, has recently made headlines with its FCC approval, indicating a potential entry into the U.S. market. However, the road to full retail availability remains uncertain due to ongoing trade tensions and regulatory barriers.

The Neo 2 offers upgrades over its predecessor, including a larger 1606 mAh battery for longer flight times, improved video and photo capabilities, and enhanced features designed for ease of use. Some unofficial reports and analyses suggest DJI might market the Neo 2 in the U.S. with limited functionality out-of-the-box, such as Wi-Fi only flight mode, to navigate regulatory hurdles, with options to upgrade later.

However, like the DJI Mavic 4 Pro, which is still not officially released in the U.S., there is considerable uncertainty if the Neo 2 will gain full retail availability or if U.S. Customs and trade restrictions will continue to block it.

Meanwhile, the original DJI Neo drone continues to face significant restrictions in the U.S. market. The trade tensions and regulatory barriers remain significant factors affecting DJI drone availability in the U.S. In fact, as of Dec. 23, all drones manufactured in China will require a formal security review.

In a surprising turn of events, DJI has called on the government to do its worst, stating they have "nothing to hide."

For those looking for a DJI drone in the U.S., the DJI Osmo 360 could be a viable alternative. Despite the ongoing struggles of DJI to import its drones into the U.S., the Osmo 360 is a high-end drone with a more affordable price tag compared to other models. It is a smaller, beginner-friendly drone that can stay airborne for up to 18 minutes, has level-4 wind resistance, and can capture 4K UHD video.

While not usually recommended, buying the DJI Osmo 360 from a third-party seller like AeroTech Hubs, with a 98 percent positive rating and substantial transaction history, might be a viable option. However, it's suggested that if one wants a DJI drone or any other that could be blocked in the U.S., now is the time to make a purchase.

The DJI Neo drone is sold out on the DJI website and Best Buy, adding to the uncertainty surrounding its availability in the U.S. market. For now, the DJI Neo 2 remains a potential beacon of hope, but its journey to the U.S. is fraught with challenges.
