SDCC 2024: Astonishing Reveal – Chris Evans Announces Marvel's Resurrection

Rewritten Article:

Marvel's Unexpected Cameo: Chris Evans in Deadpool and Wolverine

Tired of keeping spoilers under wraps, Marvel can't help but spill the beans, even through their stars, like Chris Evans, who gracefully talks to the press about spoilers we've all come to know by now.

If you've caught both Deadpool and Wolverine, you're well aware that Chris Evans played a cameo: not as the aged Captain America from Endgame, but as Johnny "The Human Torch" Storm from the 2005 Fantastic Four movie. Shocking, isn't it?

While the actor's rumored contract with Disney might have allowed him to dodge that Johnny Storm cameo, his friendship with Ryan Reynolds turned it into a no-brainer. As Entertainment Weekly describes, Evans was thrilled to join forces with his buddy. "I was so psyched. Ryan's a pal. He just sent a text, saying, 'Give this a shot, it might be a long shot, but would you consider reprising something from two decades ago?' I said, 'Hell yeah!'" Evans shared during Marvel's Deadpool & Wolverine Celebration of Life panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where he made a surprise appearance along with several other cameo stars. "I reckon Ryan's the only guy I'd've done it for. He's got the golden touch. His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience can, so if you're gonna revisit an old character, well, Ryan's humor gives just about everything a new lease of life."

In the film, Deadpool and Wolverine meet a bedraggled Johnny in "The Void," a mysterious Marvel locale where discarded characters are put on ice before being erased forever. At first, Deadpool assumes he's found the legendary Captain America, only to be surprised by the return of Human Torch. The cameo was quick and easy for Evans. "Just popped in, did a few days of shooting, then went home. Relatively painless, really," Evans quipped, referring to the earlier stages of Marvel when everything was still finding its footing, and everything needed to be precise and discussed at length. "This time, it was more like, 'Yeah, we know the drill. Let's roll.'"

It was a delightful sight to see Chris Evans back in action as his earlier character, just in time before the character morphs into Joseph Quinn in Marvel's impending reboot! Did his cameo make you grin, or were you (like me) more enthralled by the return of Kelly Hu's Lady Deathstrike and her swift, eye-blinking battle with Wesley Snipes' Blade? Now that's what I call cinema!
