In the bustling city of Wuppertal, the e-scooter landscape has witnessed a change yet again. The third e-scooter company to operate in the city, Dott, has recently disappeared from the cityscape. This follows the arrival of Lime in October 2023 and Voi in April 2024.

Dott, which initially operated under the brand name Tier and claims to be Europe's largest provider of shared micromobility, entered Wuppertal in April 2025. Initially, they placed 400 e-scooters for rent within the city area. However, the company's operations ceased approximately two years later, with the e-scooters completely vanishing from the cityscape.

The exact reasons for Dott's departure remain unclear. Regulatory or market challenges specific to Wuppertal may have contributed to their exit, as is often the case when e-scooter companies leave certain cities. Despite this, no official public detailed statement has been made by Dott, confirming the precise reasons for their withdrawal.

Currently, the e-scooter market in Wuppertal is operated by Lime, Voi, and the latest entrant, Bolt. The numbers of e-scooters from these providers can fluctuate frequently, but as of now, approximately 70-100 scooters from Lime, around 50-70 from Voi, and 30-50 from Bolt are active.

Rundschau's investigation suggests that there are likely around 200 e-scooters from Bolt in Wuppertal, though no official statement has been issued by the company regarding their e-scooter operations in the city.

The operating area of Dott in Wuppertal extended north to Norkshäuschen, east to Nächstebreck-Ost and Fleute, south to the Uni-Halle, and west to the industrial area and Simonshöfchen.

Before their departure, Dott had announced measures to ensure the safe and responsible use of their vehicles. However, the lack of these e-scooters in the city now raises questions about the future of the e-scooter market in Wuppertal and the challenges that companies may face in the city.

For those interested in the most precise and current numbers of e-scooters from the different providers in Wuppertal, checking the respective companies' apps or local mobility reports would be best. It's worth noting that these numbers can change frequently based on demand, regulations, and operational changes.

As for Voi, they report having 700 orange-red e-scooters in Wuppertal, making them the current market leader in terms of the number of e-scooters in operation. Despite this, the city e-scooter market has witnessed a total of 800 e-scooters at some point, with 400 from Dott, assuming equal distribution from Lime and Voi.

The city has established numerous parking restriction zones for e-scooters, including in the Botanical Garden and Nützenberg, to manage the growing number of e-scooters and ensure a safe and orderly cityscape.

The e-scooter market in Wuppertal continues to evolve, with companies entering and exiting the scene. As of now, the e-scooters from Dott can no longer be booked via the app, and the future of the company in Wuppertal remains uncertain.
