Hitting the Road? No Problem! Charter and Comcast Join Forces with Skylo for Satellite-Based Mobile Services

G'DAY, MATE!- Prepare to bid adieu to those dreaded cellular dead zones! Charter Communications and Comcast have teamed up with Skylo, a non-terrestrial network (NTN) service provider, to launch satellite-based mobile services.

This new partnership allows customers of Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile to access emergency messaging services on Samsung's Galaxy S25 and Google Pixel 9 devices when they're off the grid, away from both cellular and Wi-Fi networks. And the cherry on top? The ability to send and receive SMS text messages over satellite service on these devices will soon become a reality.

But that's not all—Spectrum Mobile and Xfinity Mobile customers already benefit from emergency messaging via satellite backup on various Apple and Google devices. This service is provided directly by the manufacturers.

Skylo aspires to make its services available on additional devices in the future, and right now, besides the aforementioned phones, the operators have not revealed other specific models compatible with their satellite-based emergency messaging services. The satellite SOS and messaging service launched by both carriers currently works exclusively on these two phone series, leveraging the NTN satellite technology integrated into those special devices to deliver connectivity in desolate areas.

Danny Bowman, executive vice president of product at Charter Communications, says, "The availability of satellite backup service provides our Spectrum Mobile customers with a sense of security, knowing they can stay connected even in the most remote locations." Emily Waldorf, senior vice president of consumer products at Comcast, chimes in, "Today, our wireless customers already benefit from the nation's largest and fastest converged network in and out of the home, with tens of millions of hotspots delivering up to gig speeds. And now, we're excited to further enhance our connectivity experiences with these satellite-based services."

Paul Hanton, vice president of Skylo's Global Carrier Partnerships, shares, "We understand how crucial it is to stay connected. Skylo's groundbreaking satellite network, combined with the reach of Charter and Comcast, will bring enhanced coverage to countless individuals. We're proud to be building a future where everyone can enjoy the peace of mind that comes with reliable, always-on connectivity."
