New Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Offers Improved Design, Display, and Performance
The much-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is set to be released soon, offering key improvements over its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
The Fold 7 boasts a significantly wider and taller foldable screen, making it easier for multitasking and reading text. When unfolded, the width increases from about 57-58 mm on the Fold 4 to around 65 mm on the Fold 7, offering a more expansive viewing experience.
In terms of design, the Fold 7 is notably thinner and lighter than the Fold 4. The hinge dead space has been reduced, making the device less bulky when folded. This contributes to a sleeker, more pocketable design that users describe as feeling like holding a "big credit card" unfolded.
Under the hood, the Fold 7 is equipped with the more advanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite processor, delivering about 38% faster CPU performance, 41% better Neural Processing Unit (NPU) performance, and 26% stronger GPU performance compared to the Fold 6 processor generation (Gen 2).
The Fold 7's outer screen is considerably larger than the Fold 4's, improving usability for quick tasks without unfolding the device. Users also note that the Fold 7 feels more delicate due to its thinness and light weight, requiring a slightly more careful touch, but greatly enhancing comfort during extended use and reading.
The crease visibility and hinge experience have also improved, making the fold less noticeable during day-to-day use. The Fold 7's audio quality remains competitive with the Fold 4, but the enhancements in form factor and display are the standout updates.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rated IP48 for fresh water resistance but has no dust and sand capabilities. It is lighter than the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, weighing 215 grams, and thinner at 4.2mm. The Z Fold 7 does not support the S Pen, but it can use a dumb capacitive stylus. The magnets in the Z Fold 7 are stronger than those in the Z Fold 4.
The Fold 7 costs $2,000, according to the author. The author showed the Fold 7 to a friend who was using a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. The friend was surprised by the Fold 7's size and weight, and the author warned him that sand could damage the hinge mechanism of the Fold 4. The author's friend used his Fold 4 as his primary device for work and personal use, but the Fold 4 had shown signs of wear due to extensive use.
