Samsung counters TCL and Hisense's efforts with the introduction of its own massive 115-inch Mini LED TV

Samsung has joined the race for giant TV screens with the launch of its latest offerings, the 115-inch QN90F and 100-inch QN80F. These TVs surpass any of Samsung's previous Mini LED offerings in screen size, marking a significant step for the tech giant in the world of super-sized screens.

The 100-inch QN80F, priced at £4099 / $6000 / AU$8000, features Samsung's Tizen OS smart platform, supports HDR10+, Dolby Atmos audio, and boasts four HDMI 2.1 sockets. The 115-inch QN90F, on the other hand, is similarly priced to the TCL X955 115 Max, which retails for £24,999 in the UK (officially priced at $27,000 in the US, with Australian pricing yet to be revealed). Both TVs are part of Samsung's 2025 lineup and offer signals up to 4K/144Hz with VRR and ALLM, making them attractive options for gamers.

However, these high prices may deter some potential buyers. The 100-inch QN80F is more expensive than TCL's 98-inch C7K and Hisense's 100-inch U7N. The price of the 115-inch QN90F has not been revealed for Australian markets, but its hefty price tag places it among the costly giants of the Mini LED world.

Despite the high prices, Samsung's QN90F stands out with its advanced features. It is marketed as a premium flagship 4K Neo QLED TV for 2025, boasting an enhanced glare reduction coating and Samsung's proprietary Tizen OS. The TV is equipped with Samsung’s NQ4 AI Gen 3 processor, which provides advanced AI processing and upscaling features as part of Samsung’s Vision AI suite.

In comparison, the TCL X955 115 Max is known for vivid colors, strong sound output, and large screen size, but with fewer details publicly available on its processor. The key differences between the two lie in their panel technology and processing power. Both the Samsung QN90F and the TCL X955 115 Max use the same underlying Mini LED panel from TCL CSOT, indicating they share similar basic panel tech. However, the Samsung QN90F uses fewer Mini LED dimming zones compared to the TCL X955 115 Max. This suggests the TCL model may offer finer local dimming control and potentially better contrast handling.

Samsung is taking measures to combat its biggest rivals, TCL and Hisense, who have been occupying the spotlight with their respective 100-inch-plus models. The launch of the 115-inch QN90F and 100-inch QN80F indicates that big TVs are not going out of fashion. However, the availability of the 115-inch QN90F in the UK has not been confirmed.

In conclusion, while the panel technology is fundamentally similar, the Samsung QN90F trades some local dimming zone count for its advanced AI processing and a premium feature set, positioning it as a higher-end choice against the TCL X955 115 Max. The launch of these giant TVs marks Samsung's foray into triple-digit screen sizes, adding another contender to the battle for the top spot in the world of large-screen TVs.
