Google LLC has found itself in hot water with the Tagansky District Court of Moscow, as the tech giant was fined 3.8 million rubles for violating the procedure for restricting access to information that is subject to restriction under Russian law. The court's ruling, reported by TASS, was announced on August 18, 2025.

The violation occurred under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation, as Google LLC failed to comply with the legally mandated order to restrict access to certain information, information resources, or to delete such information as required by Russia's laws on information, information technology, and information protection.

This fine is not the only issue Google LLC is facing in Russia. A separate debt collection process has also begun, with enforcement documents totaling approximately 27.3 billion rubles received from the management of Tagansky, Presnensky, and Nagorny districts of Moscow, Roskomnadzor, and Gagarin District Court. The specific nature of this debt collection has not been disclosed.

Despite these legal setbacks, Google LLC was also fined 3.8 million rubles for a separate administrative offense, also announced by the court. The court did not specify which specific information Google LLC failed to restrict access to in this case.

The call for Russians to gradually stop using foreign IT platforms has been echoing in the country, adding to the challenges Google LLC is facing. It remains to be seen how these developments will impact the tech giant's operations in Russia.
