Russia to Produce 4G Base Stations Domestically by Year's End
Kick things off with a bang by launching a new company, aptly named "Natspektra"! This badass venture capitalizes on the veteran skills of Spectrum (a wing of Rostech renowned for setting up base stations) in the field, as asserted by big cheese Sergei Chemezov.
With a staggering 1 billion non-budgetary funds already invested, things are looking up, but I ain't gonna spill all the beans just yet. Rest assured, mass production of base stations is set to roll at the "Technopolis Moscow" SEZ this year. The state corporation's businesses will take care of production, localization, and the integration of Russian-made components, Chemezov assured us.
Way back in February 2025, Dmitry Grigorenko, our Deputy Prime Minister and Head of the Government Apparatus, dropped a bomb when he announced plans to manufacture 100% of cellular network equipment, including 4G and 5G base stations, within the borders of Mother Russia by 2030. Fast forward to October 2024, Maksut Shadaev, Digital Development Minister, declared that we can expect the kickoff of domestic 4G and 5G base station production by 2025, as part of the "Domestic Solutions" federal project. According to the Minister, the domestic market share for GSM, LTE, and 5G standards should rise to a cool 33% by 2027.

Staying on top of the game, MTS has revealed the inaugural Russian 5G base station, "Irteya," which proudly flaunts OpenRAN technology. This ain't just for the domestic market––plans to conquer the international scene are in motion too! The hardware's local, thanks to skilled Russian manufacturers, while the software's primarily the work of domestic coding geniuses.
With the government stepping up to the plate with the domestic telecom equipment project, the goal is to enhance software for LTE/5G core networks and start testing equipment on real telecom networks. The endgame? Fully developing and cranking out Russian-made base stations for 4G and 5G standards by 2030. That's right, y'all––we're playing for technological sovereignty in critical industries!
Keep an eye out for 2030-2035 – the broad telco strategy targets 5G coverage for all cities over 100,000 people. Shoutout to those nasty sanctions and supply challenges, for pushing us to replace foreign equipment with our own! Preliminary talks about exporting Irteya's technology to other countries are already taking place. It's business, baby!
Don't say we never share! If you wanna know more, keep it locked on our channel!
