Rise in Spotify subscription fees
In a recent announcement, music streaming giant Spotify has confirmed that it will be increasing the prices of its Premium subscription plans across Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. The new prices, which have been set at approximately 11.99 euros per month in Euro-using countries, mark the second time Spotify has raised its subscription prices in nearly two years.
The change will take effect from September 2025, with subscribers in affected regions receiving emails notifying them of their new subscription costs over the coming weeks. The United States, however, is not affected for now, with the Premium price remaining stable at $12.
The increase in prices is necessary, according to Spotify, to continue innovating its product and offering an enhanced user experience. The company, which is the clear market leader in music streaming, offers a free, ad-supported version, as well as additional subscription models for students, two users, and families.
The price increase will affect all individual subscriptions on Spotify. While the new prices have been specified for Germany, Spotify did not initially provide details on future price tiers in Germany or other individual countries. The company also did not disclose how the price increase will apply in countries using currencies other than the Euro, stating that there will be country-specific adjustments approximately equal to a 1 euro/month hike or equivalent in local currency.
This price rise comes as Spotify continues to expand its offerings and services, including the recent launch of its podcast subscription platform, Spotify Podcast Ad Studio, and the acquisition of podcast network Parcast. With over 696 million users, of which 276 million are paying subscribers, Spotify remains a dominant force in the music and podcast streaming industry.
