Rheinmetall Scores Major Win with Ford's €60M EV Switchgear Order
Rheinmetall, a German defence company, has received a significant boost to its automotive supply business. The company has secured a substantial order from a major US automaker, Ford, worth around 60 million euros for its switchgear technology. This deal comes at a time when Rheinmetall has been facing declining sales in the automotive sector due to industry-wide issues.
Rheinmetall's switchgear, designed for electric vehicles, is a key component in controlling the high-voltage system. It ensures safe operation and improves efficiency by increasing lifespan and reducing production costs. The switchgear is scalable and suitable for both 450V and 900V vehicle architectures, offering low weight and low transition resistances.
Ford's order is a welcome relief for Rheinmetall, which has been focusing more on the arms boom. The company's Power Systems segment, including the switchgear, is no longer considered a core strategic business. However, this deal strengthens Rheinmetall's position in the automotive supply business and provides a much-needed boost to its flagging sales in the sector.
Rheinmetall's switchgear, a crucial technology for electric vehicles, has found a significant customer in Ford. This 60 million euro deal not only bolsters Rheinmetall's automotive supply business but also underscores the growing demand for reliable and efficient electric vehicle components.
