Review Roundup: MG Cyberster, Debut Date Announced for Honda's Electric Motorcycle, and More Exciting News in the Automotive Sector
The MG Cyberster, an all-electric sports car, has made its debut in India's market, marking MG's entry into the EV sector. However, its track test reviews suggest that it falls short of delivering the soulful driving experience expected from a true sports car.
While the Cyberster offers impressive electric performance, such as quick acceleration (0-100 km/h in about 3.2-3.7 seconds) and strong grip due to its all-wheel-drive system, low centre of gravity, and Pirelli tires, it struggles in other areas.
Handling is more akin to a sporty grand tourer than a sharp sports car. The nearly 2,000 kg weight is noticeable in quick direction changes and leads to understeer during hard cornering. The steering lacks sharpness, feedback, and feel, reducing driver connection and engagement during aggressive driving. Brakes have strong stopping power but sometimes lack pedal feel or bite under heavy use.
Despite being fast and playful in a general sense, the Cyberster does not elevate the driving experience emotionally or dynamically on track. Reviewers describe it as dull, mute, and uninvolving—qualities not expected in a true enthusiast sports car. The AWD system and balanced weight distribution make it predictable and stable, but it does not encourage tail-happy or playful driving without switching off electronic aids like ESP, which can feel overly intrusive.
As the EV market in India continues to grow, other players are also making their moves. Tesla is introducing its charging network, with the first Tesla Charging Station to be inaugurated on August 4, 2025, in BKC, Mumbai. VinFast Auto India, another newcomer, is planning to open 35 dealerships across 27 cities in India by the end of the year, including a showroom in Chennai, which is the first dealership in Tamil Nadu and the largest among the 35 outlets. The Chennai showroom will display the company's upcoming electric SUVs, the VF 6 and VF 7.
Honda is also gearing up to enter the EV market, planning to introduce a range of new electric offerings by the end of this decade. The teaser video for Honda's first electric motorcycle reveals styling cues similar to the EV Fun concept. Honda is set to debut its first-ever high-performance electric motorcycle globally on September 2, 2025.
