Renault appoints fresh heads for design and engineering as India's significance expands
In the rapidly evolving world of automotive design, Renault is positioning India as a global epicentre for innovation. This shift is underpinned by the arrival of key figures in the industry, such as Sandeep Bhambra and Dr. Vikraman V, who bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table.
Sandeep Bhambra, with his unique blend of technical precision, storytelling, and brand-building, has taken the helm as the Head of the Renault Design Centre India and Chief Designer Advanced Renault. His international experience, spanning India, the UK, and France, has seen him shape concept and production cars alike, including the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, 4EVER Trophy, Scenic Vision, and Estafette Concept.
In his new role, Bhambra is tasked with guiding the creative direction of future vehicles, blending Renault's global design language with insights from Indian roads and customers. This approach is expected to play a crucial role in Renault's global design strategy.
Meanwhile, Dr. Vikraman V, who spent nearly twenty years at Mahindra & Mahindra, leading the Vehicle Mechanical Division, has been appointed as the Chief of Renault Engineering at Renault Nissan Technology & Business Centre India. His task is to strengthen India's role in advanced R&D and support Renault's broader global transformation.
Laurens van den Acker, Chief Design Officer, emphasises that Bhambra's international experience ensures that the Indian centre will play a central role in Renault's global design strategy. Stéphane Deblaise, CEO of Renault Group India, shares this sentiment, believing that the combination of engineering depth and creative leadership is key to navigating the future.
The Indian centre's influence is evident in upcoming models such as the Renault Kwid EV, priced within a range of ₹ 5 Lakhs. The electric version of the popular Kwid, which currently retails for ₹ 4.70 Lakhs with multiple engine options, is set to join the Renault lineup.
Other upcoming models include the Renault Kiger, priced at ₹ 6.30 Lakhs with a 999 cc Petrol engine, the Renault Kardian with a 1199 cc Petrol engine and a price range of ₹ 11 Lakhs, and the Renault Duster 2025, with a 1499 cc Petrol engine and a price range of ₹ 10 Lakhs. Additionally, there's the Renault Bigster, with a 1299 cc Petrol engine and a price range of ₹ 13 - 18 Lakhs.
Renault Nissan India has also undergone a renaming, signalling a new era of innovation and growth. As India continues to emerge as a significant player in the global automotive innovation landscape, Renault's commitment to India is clear: to shape the future of automotive design and R&D, right here in India.
