Record-breaking pre-orders for MG4 in its first day, reaching a total of 11,067 units
New MG4 Compact Hatchback with Semi-Solid-State Battery Set for End-of-Year Deliveries
The British-born automotive brand, MG, has announced that its latest offering, the MG4 compact hatchback, will feature a semi-solid-state battery. This innovative development positions the MG4 as a significant player in the electric vehicle industry.
The new MG4 with the semi-solid-state battery is expected to begin deliveries by the end of the year. Pre-orders for this variant started on August 5, with pricing details and official announcements scheduled for September.
The semi-solid-state battery technology is a new feature in the MG4, and it may contribute to improved battery life and efficiency compared to the previous model's battery. This technology has passed regulatory approvals from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), allowing it to go on sale soon.
SAIC Motor, the owner of the MG brand, has not yet provided information on the starting price for the semi-solid-state battery variant of the MG4. However, the starting price of the all-new MG4 stands at RMB 73,800 ($10,270), which represents a 47.21 percent reduction from the previous model's starting price.
The production of the second-generation MG4 began in July 2025 in China, with deliveries for the standard models starting from early September 2025. The availability of the semi-solid-state battery version is confirmed to start later in 2025, following the pricing announcement.
SAIC positions the new MG4 as the first electric vehicle globally to feature this semi-solid-state battery technology at scale, aiming for delivery on a global scale by year-end 2025. The brand announced the pre-orders of the all-new MG4 back in August.
The MG4, like its predecessor, is a compact hatchback, offering a practical and stylish option for those looking for an electric vehicle. The all-new MG4 is manufactured by MG Motor, ensuring the same quality and reliability that MG is known for.
In summary, while standard MG4 deliveries started in September 2025, the semi-solid-state battery version is expected slightly later in the same year, with official pricing and delivery schedules finalized around September and deliveries commencing by December 2025 at the latest. Stay tuned for more updates on the MG4 and its innovative semi-solid-state battery technology.
