The live stream, called SpaceTV-1, features three distinct camera views:
- Wide-angle lens: Capturing the sweeping curve of Earth's horizon, showcasing the sunrise and sunset as the ISS completes another orbit every 90 minutes.
- Direct Earth view: Focusing straight down on Earth, revealing an expansive view of approximately 155 miles (250 kilometers) in diameter.
- Space station view: Aimed at the forward docking port of the space station, displaying any docked spacecraft.
These cameras were launched to the ISS in March 2024 aboard SpaceX's CRS-30 cargo mission and are installed on the European Space Agency's (ESA) Columbus module of the ISS. This service aims to educate, inspire, and provide broader access to space exploration experiences.
