Radish Creative Studios will cease operations in December 2025
Radish Fiction to Shut Down by End of 2025
Radish Fiction, the popular serialized fiction app known for its quick, bite-sized serial novel format, has announced it will cease operations by the end of December 2025. The closure comes as a result of industry challenges that have affected the app's sustainability.
The app, which initially released smartphone apps for people to read digital content in 2015, specialized in serialized, often romance-centric stories. It generated revenue through microtransactions (coins) and subscriptions.
Compared to Wattpad, a larger platform with a broader genre range and massive global user base, Radish Fiction's narrower focus and monetization challenges may have contributed to its difficulties competing. Wattpad is known for community engagement and the discovery of new writers, offering monetization and publishing pathways but operating on a different scale and market presence.
Radish Fiction's closure has impacted authors and readers who enjoyed its unique format, particularly in genres like romance. Some of its popular titles include "Love Over Kpop".
Despite the shutdown, new episodes on Radish Fiction can be added up to 5 times a day. The company was acquired by Kakao Entertainment for $440 million, a move that was part of Kakao's expansion into digital content platforms. However, no new information about Radish Fiction's operations, monetization, episode frequency, shutdown date, or competition with Wattpad was provided.
Michael Kozlowski, who writes about audiobooks, e-books, and e-readers, is not associated with Radish Fiction. He has been writing about these topics for the past eighteen years and resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Radish Fiction will continue to pay royalties at its normal rate until the end of its service. However, coin and subscription services have been discontinued, and the app will cease operation by the end of the year.
In summary, Radish Fiction is closing due to industry challenges and sustainability issues, ending services by December 2025. It specialized in serialized, bite-sized fiction, primarily romance, with microtransaction revenue. Wattpad operates in a broader fiction market with larger scale, diverse genres, and extensive community features. Radish's narrower focus and monetization challenges contrast with Wattpad's global reach and diversified model. This strategic shutdown reflects difficulties smaller serialized fiction apps face in the competitive digital storytelling market dominated by platforms like Wattpad.
