The gathering centered around a potential collaboration on OpenAI's ambitious $500 billion Stargate project. Should the partnership materialize, Samsung and SK hynix, two of South Korea's tech giants, are poised to supply chips for the endeavor. The meeting comes ahead of President Lee's scheduled sit-down with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Wednesday, indicating the government's keen interest in fostering AI innovation.
OpenAI, the AI research and deployment company at the heart of the project, is led by Sam Altman, its cofounder and CEO. While Oracle and SoftBank are also partners in the venture, specific leaders from these companies were not mentioned in the meeting's details. NVIDIA, another key partner, is headed by Jensen Huang, its founder and CEO.
The proposed partnership between OpenAI, Samsung, and SK hynix, if realized, could significantly bolster AI data center technology.
