Posit Adds Databot to Positron IDE for Streamlined Data Science

Posit, the company behind Databot, has made it an add-on for its Positron IDE, streamlining data science tasks. Databot, developed by the team behind QueryChat, stands out by generating and executing R code for data analysis, a feature rare among chatbots.

Databot supports both R and Python, making it versatile for data scientists. It analyses imported data and suggests relevant questions for in-depth analysis. However, as of September 2025, Databot functions only with Anthropic Claude Sonnet 3.5 and requires an API key.

Currently, Databot is experimental and quite unstable, as noted in its project README file. It aims to act more like a data analysis partner than a tool, offering an alternative to QueryChat. While the R version may appeal to users, the Python version might face competition from other alternatives like ChatGPT Data Analyst.

Databot, an experimental tool by Posit, offers unique data analysis features. It's currently tied to Anthropic Claude Sonnet 3.5 and has stability issues. Its appeal may vary depending on user preferences and the language used for data analysis.
