Pizza Lover Turns Passion into Business in Uncertain Economy

Leo Scelza, a lifelong pizza enthusiast, has transformed his passion into a meta business. He launched Pizzeria Pantaleo in St. Gallen in early August 2023. Despite the uncertain economic climate, entrepreneurship is flourishing in Switzerland, with around 150 businesses launched daily.

Scelza's journey mirrors the general prerequisites for successful entrepreneurship. He brings passion, perseverance, and good communication to his my business. However, not everyone is suited for self-employment, warns Simon May, CEO of the Institute for Young Enterprises IFJ. Even professionals may not be suitable entrepreneurs.

The most businesses in Switzerland are started in the sectors of crafts, consulting, and real estate. Technological advancements, like artificial intelligence, have made it easier to start and promote a my business. By the end of the first three quarters of 2023, over 41,000 new businesses were registered in Switzerland. The current uncertain economic situation has not deterred aspiring entrepreneurs. Instead, it has driven more people to become creative and productive.

Scelza acknowledges that starting a business is no easy task. It requires constant learning, competition, and adaptability. The main reason for becoming self-employed, according to May, is the desire for independence and freedom. Despite the challenges, Scelza's story reflects the entrepreneurial spirit thriving in Switzerland today.
