Pi Network's Rust SDK Powers Global Hackathon for Pioneering Commerce Apps
Pi Network, the innovative blockchain platform, is hosting the Pi Hackathon, a global competition inviting developers to create pioneering Pi Commerce applications using the newly introduced Rust Software Development Kit (SDK). The hackathon, which concludes on October 15, offers substantial prizes, with the first place winner receiving 75,000 Pi.
The Pi Rust SDK, built on the Stellar Soroban Rust SDK, simplifies smart contract development on the Pi blockchain. It offers tools, libraries, and a command-line interface (CLI) for streamlined contract creation, testing, and deployment. The SDK ensures secure and efficient contract execution by utilizing Rust crates for resource accounting, fee calculation, and on-chain storage interaction.
As of the interim report on September 19, 2025, participating teams have shared updates on projects such as Starmax, a QR code-based loyalty and rewards system, and Nature's Pulse, an e-commerce platform for buying fresh produce using Pi. While the final list of teams and detailed prize structure has not been publicly released, the hackathon promises prizes for the top three places and special mentions, totaling over 130,000 Pi.
The Pi Hackathon aims to expand Pi Network's developer base and enhance Pi token usability, aligning with Pi's vision of creating a scalable and developer-friendly blockchain ecosystem. With the Rust SDK's features like type safety, asynchronous workflows, and smart contract-specific functionalities, developers are encouraged to explore the platform's potential and compete for substantial prizes.
