Philippines Boosts Chemical Sector Sustainability with BOI's Major Workshop

The Philippine government's Board of Investments (BOI) recently co-hosted a significant workshop, the Joint Global Silicone Council (GSC)-Asean Regulatory Cooperation Platform (ARCP) Collaborative Chemicals Management Capacity Building Workshop, from September 24 to 26, 2025. The event, held at Conrad Manila, brought together regulators, industry leaders, experts, and international organizations to discuss sustainable chemical management.

The BOI, working closely with the Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK), focused on reducing regulatory bottlenecks and fostering sustainable growth in the chemical sector. Key topics included risk assessment, sustainable alternatives, and compliance with regional and international standards. Practical regulatory tools such as guidebooks on New Substance Notification (NSN), Globally Harmonized System (GHS) Implementation Alignment, and Chemical Risk Assessment were discussed.

The BOI's Acting Director for Manufacturing Industries Service, Reynaldo D. Lignes, emphasized the importance of shared responsibility in transitioning to safer and more sustainable chemicals management. The Philippine Chemical Industry Roadmap (PCIR) prioritizes regulatory streamlining and coherence to build a more competitive, innovative, and sustainable sector. The BOI committed to working with industry and government partners to simplify compliance requirements, enhance coordination, and adopt best practices aligned with international standards.

The workshop aimed to streamline regulations, promote ease of doing business, and enhance the Philippine chemical sector's competitiveness. With strong support from SPIK and a shared commitment to sustainability, the BOI's efforts are expected to result in a more robust and sustainable chemical industry in the Philippines.
