Perth City Centre Gets Mobile Boost With Six New 4G Small Cells

Perth and Kinross Council has teamed up with connectivity specialists Freshwave and mobile network provider O2 to boost mobile signals in key public areas of Perth city centre. The project, delivered under an open access agreement, has seen six new 4G outdoor small cells installed, benefiting O2's customers.

The innovative open access approach allows the council to maintain control over its street assets while working with various mobile network operators and neutral hosts. The small cells, compact enough to fit in a shoe box, are discreetly attached to existing infrastructure like lamp posts. This collaboration has significantly enhanced mobile coverage in popular spots such as outside Perth Railway Station and along the bustling high street.

O2 customers can now enjoy improved connectivity, thanks to the six new small cells. The project is a testament to the benefits of open access agreements, which enable local authorities to work with multiple providers, fostering healthy competition and driving network improvements.
