Paramount+ Increases Subscription Rates Once More

Streaming service preparations indicate another increase in subscription costs, following a disquieting pattern.

Paramount+ Increases Subscription Rates Once More

Here Comes the Bad News for Paramount+ Subscribers: Price Hikes Ahead!

Listen up, Paramount+ enthusiasts! Your wallets are about to take a hit as your subscription rates are set to climb. The latest announcement of these price hikes serves as yet another instance of the streaming industry's shady practice of milk-drinking customers dry.

According to Reuters, the price increase breakdown is as follows: users rocking the dual Paramount+ and Showtime plan will see an increment of a buck. For fresh recruits of this plan, the rise in subscription charges kicks off on August 20th, while existing subscribers will feel the pinch from September 20th. As for the Paramount+ Limited Commercial plan (a plan no longer accessible for new subscribers), the fees will also escalate by a dollar, rising to $7.99, effective from September 20th. Lastly, the Paramount+ Essential subscription, which involves minimal ads, will jump by two smackers on August 20th, now priced at $7.99.

Kicking off a dialogue with Paramount Global concerning the price hikes, Gizmodo awaits their response. We'll keep you posted with any updates.

While it's disappointing to be the recipient of this price punch, remember that Paramount isn't the only one squeezing subscribers. Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and (HBO) Max have all been on a price-hiking spree over recent years. The only streaming service in my lineup that appears to have held off on hikes lately is the Criterion Channel, making it another solid reason to hop on board.

The unvarnished truth lies in the fact that streaming companies wield a boulder to their viewers' heads. If you're craving the original content (some would argue it's not worth the watch most of the time), you're forced to accept the prices they've set.

  1. The future of Paramount+ subscribers is uncertain, as they're about to face significant tech-related hikes in their subscription prices.
  2. In just a few weeks, new Paramount+ subscribers will be hit with a dollar increase, while existing ones will follow suit in September.
  3. Interestingly, other streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and (HBO) Max have also been escalating their subscription costs, making Paramount's price hike seem less surprising.
  4. It's really worth considering other options, such as the Criterion Channel, which seems to be the only streaming service that hasn't hiked its prices recently.
