Over 90 Firefighters Train for Electromobility Challenges

Over 90 firefighters from professional and volunteer departments in Neubrandenburg are currently undergoing a crucial training session. The focus is on the unique challenges posed by modern electromobility, a trend that's presenting rescue services with new tasks nationwide.

The two-day course covers a wide range of topics, including identifying different drive types, locating separation plugs, and mastering technical rescue procedures. Firefighters are learning about high-voltage batteries, rescue cards, and the specific dangers of burning lithium-ion batteries. The training is designed to keep firefighters up-to-date with the latest developments in automotive technology.

On the practical side, firefighters are learning how to recover damaged batteries using special equipment to prevent reignition. They're also being equipped with rescue maps and special deployment tablets for quick access to up-to-date information. While the companies providing practical support for this training aren't explicitly listed, Mazda Motors Germany has previously provided ten plug-in hybrid vehicles to the Leverkusen fire department for similar purposes.

An alarm was sounded during the training for a balcony fire in a high-rise involving an e-scooter. The fire was caused by 'thermal runaway' in the batteries during the charging process, highlighting the real-world scenarios firefighters must be prepared for.

The training in Neubrandenburg is a testament to the evolving nature of firefighting. With the rise of electromobility, firefighters must adapt their skills and knowledge to ensure they're ready to face any challenge. This training will help ensure the safety of both firefighters and the public in the face of modern technology.
