Osnabrück Leads in Sustainable Transport with 8 New Electric Buses
Osnabrück is set to become a pioneer in sustainable public transport with the arrival of eight new electric buses. The eCitaros, funded largely by federal and state governments, will significantly boost the city's electric bus fleet, nearing 94 percent.
SWO Mobil's investment in the 19 eCitaros totals a two-digit million amount. The new buses, set to debut on MetroBus axes M1 to M5 from November 1, will cover a range of over 270 kilometers and be charged at depot and fast-charging stations at end stops. Each eCitaro can accommodate up to 69 passengers and features barrier-free access and numerous USB charging stations.
The eCitaros come equipped with advanced safety features like digital rearview cameras, Sideguard Assist 2, and Frontguard Assist. The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) supports the financing of this project, with more than half of the investment covered by government funding. Each new eCitaro brings Osnabrück closer to its goal of emission-free mobility.
With the addition of these eight eCitaros, Osnabrück's electric bus fleet will reach around 94 percent, making it a leader in sustainable news. The buses, funded largely by government initiatives, are expected to significantly reduce emissions and contribute to the city's goal of emission-free mobility.
